        Public Education & CPR Training

Public Fire Education:  The department routinely educates the community on fire prevention and safety.  Fire prevention educational sessions reach all age groups in the city, from preschool to the elderly.  Small children are taught "stop, drop and roll" and "stay low and go" practices, as well as the dangers of matches and other fire hazards and sessions for elderly residents stress fire safety around heading and cooking appliances and other safety tips.  The department can customize fire education sessions for group presentations, such as local Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, preschools, senior living facilities and foreign exchange students.  Public education sessions are also given to various businesses on industrial fire safety, including the proper use of fire extinguishers on live fires.

Safety Day and Open House:  Every October, the department holds an open house at the station located on Buntrock Avenue during Fire Prevention Week, drawing hundreds of community residents and their families. The event provides information on fire prevention, a home fire safety plan, boater safety and free blood pressure screenings. In addition, there are demonstrations of fire service equipment and apparatus, EMS equipment and includes a landing by Flight for Life.  In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the departments visits local elementary schools and conducts fire safety talks, along with apparatus demonstrations.

Car Seat Installation: The Southern Ozaukee Fire Department installs car seats for area residents on an appointment-only basis at the Village of Thiensville Community Center. Once we have received your request, a certified car seat technician will get in touch with you. To learn more about the program or find alternate installation sites visit Safe Kids Wisconsin. Appointments are available Monday - Friday during normal business hours (8AM - 4PM). No walk-ins please.

  • Please bring your car seat manual, vehicle manual, and child along with you, if possible.
  • Each appointment lasts 30 to 40 minutes to allow for: inspection of seat, installation, and required educational information.
  • If you are expecting a baby, it is best to schedule your appointment for at least one month prior to the anticipated due date.
  • If anyone in your household is ill, please do not schedule an appointment. If you already have an appointment, kindly reschedule
