Emergency Services
Emergency Services: Fire suppression in the city is provided by a full time fire chief and approximately 60 paid-on-call members. The department has attained a split class ISO rating of 5/0. Fire suppression is a function generally associated with a fire department. Additionally, the department provides first responder service to emergency medical calls. Heavy rescue, including trauma or patient entrapment is a service of the Fire Department. Confined space rescue, high angle rescue and water rescue are also provided by the Department. The department is also responsible for providing advanced life support and transport services. The department responds to calls for emergency medical services from either the Safety Building on Buntrock Avenue or from the fire station on Port Washington Road. We maintain three ambulances to answer calls throughout the city. Medical care is provided on scene, and then continues in the ambulance while the patient is being transported to the hospital emergency room.
EMT/Paramedic/Firefighter Personnel: All emergency medical technicians (EMT's) and Paramedics are licensed by the State and are required to take continuing education courses. Several levels of EMT licensure are maintained to include emergency medical technician-basic, emergency medical technician-IV/Tech, emergency medical technician-intermediate and paramedic. All firefighters are certified by the NFPA's professional qualifications standards at a Firefighter I or II level. See current employment opportunities to become a member of the department.
